How does a Maryland resident buy and register a car out of state from a seller in another state?
Q. Here's the deal: I am a Maryland resident in the military, stationed out of state. I am buying a car from someone else in the military whose car is registered in a different state. I cannot get to Maryland any time soon to do registration/DMV things. Is there any way I can do all of this online? If not, how long do I have from buying the car before I have to register it?

A. You generally can't register a vehicle "On Line" But your in the military and stationed in another state, etc. There are Many regulations that make it easy for you to register your car in the state that your stationed in,now. Then when you are mustered out you register in Maryland. I have registered vehicles here in NY for Navy personnel who's Insurance company insured the vehicle with a Ship address or even a Barracks. Look into It. And as long as you have proof of military duty, Your license can remain in Maryland.Good luck and If you go to the states DMV web site you can print any document you may need.

How good a state is Maryland for safety and raising a family?
Q. I was just having a bit of a hard time finding some good links for information about this; I know there are some ghetto like areas around Washington DC, but what about the rest of Maryland? (I'm asking because me and my lady may wish to move there, as I've been accepted into the University of Maryland) Does anyone know any good info (or links or websites) as to how good a state Maryland is as far as safety and good place to raise a family goes?

A. Well, I have lived here my entire life. I am from near DC originally, and my wife is from the far off Eastern Shore. But I take since you are going to University of Maryland, you would want to be reasonably close to it? Generally Prince George's County is one of the worst . It has a lot of crime and poverty, the UMD campus is not so bad though, but that isn't really a place to live if you are married with kids. Montgomery County is a strange mix where some southern areas like Wheaton are nearly as bad as PG county, where as Bethesda is one of the most affluent and educated in the US. Northern parts of MontCo become progressively more suburban and quiet, eventually becoming rural. Areas to look for with safety in mind are away from… [cont.]

Or if you are looking for things to do, the Atlanta Magazine will help too. And, you also probally want to ignore the narrow minded poster above. How many hours drive is Maryland to Toronto?
Q. We are visiting our uncle in Maryland and we are planning to make a short trip to Canada. How tight is the security to cross the border from Buffalo to Canada? My aunt said that it would be better to bring a rental car rather than a borrowed car because of documentation purposes and security. What's the road condition like? I hear some people say it takes day and a half, others say its 9 hrs and others say its 12.
Asked by bumblebee - Sat Jun 2 09:36:40 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You are looking at a 500-600 mile drive, depending on where in MD you are starting from. With the traffic situation in the Northeast, this will be about 12 hours driving (not counting stopping for fuel, food, rest rooms). If you are taking a rental into Canada, make sure that you have permission to do so, in writing, on the rental contract! You will also need to have a passport for each member of your traveling party. Have a safe trip!

What special privileges do military personal in Maryland get when purchasing guns?
Q. I dont mean discounts, i mean as far as all the different gun laws ther in in maryland.
Asked by curious - Mon Apr 26 22:34:44 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. They don't get any special privileges when they purchase and/or own privately. This as opposed to the master at arms (or other procurement agent of the military) making an authorized purchase for a unit. There is a common misconception that members of the military are exempt from various weapon regulations in their private, off-duty time, but this is false. Such exemptions very clearly state that one must be on duty and acting in the course of duty to the military. Similarly, Maryland offers no special privilege to members of the military for purposes of obtain a concealed weapon permit. Not saying that's how things should be, but it's just how the law was written. Sorry man, but off duty you're a civie just like all of us.

How bad is crime on the University of Maryland College Park campus and its surrounding areas?
Q. I'm seriously considering this school as an option but I'm concerned about the crime rate. The only things I've heard are from my parents, but they just seem scared because of the riot that happened when maryland beat duke. I want to go to this school but all i hear about is how much crime there is it is really that bad?

A. I honestly don't know. I was considering U Maryland, as well as George Washington (which has a pretty high surrounding crime rate) and my parents are a little iffy about me applying because of the crime problem. In my opinion however, it should depend on whether you like the school or not. Crime is everywhere, and if you know how to handle it safely, and avoid it, you should be fine. Don't walk at night by yourself, use the campus security to your advantage, and I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck to you!

How's the coach seating for the Western Maryland Scenic Train ride?
Q. I'm planning a ride on the western maryland scenic train ride, unfortunately I'm a little too late with the first class seating option, so I have to settle for coach? It's half the price, but is it worth it? How is the interior? Are there a lot of kids? Any suggestions?

A. Coach is worth is especially if you get to see the fall colors. If you are going to western Maryland you might also look into Cass Scenic RR in West Virginia or Strasburg RR in Pa. The seasons are about done so you might want to book a spring trip instead.

What are the educational requirements to practice psychiatry in Maryland?
Q. I heard a Masters was necessary, but with the research I've done, it seems as though you must first get your BA, then MD, then do a minimum 4 year residency. Is a Masters required in Maryland?
Asked by Sydney J - Thu Dec 11 18:18:40 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. A psychiatrist is an M.D., in any state. Master's degrees are earned in psychology. To get a license to practice psychiatry, you would need an M.D. and the required residency [3 years, with an optional first year of internal medicine]. During residency you would take the National Board Exam, which will lead to certification. Different states have different requirements for licensing. These should be available at the website for particular states, or perhaps at the AMA or APA websites.

A. Almost certainly there are spiders and insects that are common everywhere! If you are in a city, the most hazardous critters is likely to be mosquitos that can transmit West Nile fever or encephalitis! Black widows tend to hide under things that are undisturbed, under rocks, in basements, corners of garages, etc. Use some good insect repellent or a mosquito netting!
